Day 4: The Battle with Greed

Now, before I continue, I must discuss two things. They are essential and I hope interesing. Here we go:

The thing about Billy is that no one understands him. While it IS true that his job involves carefully handling clichés, he in fact has the most confusing and obscure speech in all of Prokulpia. This is because he can see into the future, and that is because he is also a seer. Hence his clichés are often from Eras long gone or eras that will come, rendering him incomprehensible. What is further incomprehensible, is the fact that he was in the hands of the Giant, inspite of having the gift of Sight.

Now, here is the second thing, and it is the thing about Greed. Greed was a giant, even as Giants go. Towering a few hundred feet into the air, his head had access to regions that would give Fernkellis nose-bleeds. He is also known for being exceptionally Greedy. It is thought that most of the wars waged on his Fields were engineered by him. For this, and other thousands of exceptionally nasty tales, legends, and myths, he is likened to a God. The God of Greed. A punishment for those who sport Avarice and a tribute to what avarice leads you to become.

When Ogloromn looked up at the towering height of the giant, his first thought went to Billy's unfailing incompetence. The second went to his fast failing courage. He looked at Fernkellis through quivering eyes and managed a "What do we do?" The answer was rather unpleasant. Namely because there was none. Fernkellis was already soaring high in the air attacking the Giants brow with futility.

Giants. As Greed lurched towards him, Ogloromn was overwhelmed by his presence. The air cracked with each wave of its arm, the earth shattered with every step, and the ground shook before him as if in the process of losing its very essence. A terrifying experience all round.

As Ogloromn stood petrified in his place, he noticed Fickerfut riding up towards the giant. It was a dangerous task, in his atempts to swat Fernkellis, the giant was stepping about completely at random and came close to squashing the Rider and his steed on anumber of occassions. Only with deft manouvering could Fickerfut manage his circituous route around the giant's feet. And each footfall was like a crack of thunder followed by an earth quake, threatening to throw the rider off. After a few rounds of this dangerous game Fickerfut came to where Ogloromn stood gaping. Quickly he thrust a piece of strong Knotted vine into Ogloromn's hands. Fickerfut tapped him gently on the shoulder and Ogloromn snapped out of his stupor. "Quickly, now," said Fickerfut,"We haven't got much time. Fernkellis can't distract him for much longer. Ogloromn, now is the time. You are a puller of dragons. You must act now. Only you can bring the giant down."

Ogloromn, standing for so long, filled with fear felt a wierd sort of warmth gather itself up his spine. Blood rushed to every limb as he began to run round the giant. The air around him was cold and clear and an odd joy filled his mind. Everything stopped around him. All he felt was the rumbling of the giants footsteps. all he heard was the crash of the giants feet, and his own breath in the air. Are he could smell was the cutting cold of fresh air with each exhilarated breath. And all he saw was the narrow circular path he had around the giants heels. He felt the rush of adventure.

Fickerfut was right that Ogloromn had not much time. A few minutes into his run, he noticed Fernkellis swoop and fall, his wing horribly mangled. The giant had struck! Quickly he raced around the giant one more time, Fickerfut was distracting the giant now. One more weave and now Ogloromn ran and ran for his life, away from the giant, opposite to where Fickerfut had pegged his end of the rope into th ground. With all the strength he could muster Ogloromn PULLED. And as the rope tore at his hands he stained every muscle to tighten its grip on the giants legs and finally, losing balance the great beast fell.

Ogloromn was rushing away racing the wind that born from the giants fall. The impact was so great it knocked him flat onto the ground, and it took him a few minutes to reorient himself. As he regained his balance, he could see Fernkellis and Fickerfut desparately wrech Billy from the giants hands and run in his direction. He ran too and soon they hid themselves in one of the bordering patches of wood. They found an uprooted oak that gave shelter and quickly settled down. It wood be long before it was safe to venture out again so they made themselves comfortable. Ogloromn said", That was fantastic!!" "Unbelievable!" said Fernkellis. "Quite astounding!" exclaimed Fickerfut. "What a rush!" said Billy. As usual, he made no sense. "I am quite glad the Necromancer chose to come." This time he made even less sense than usual.
